Outlaw Lovers update!

I am almost finished my first draft of the next Outlaw Lovers story. Wooohooo! Hopefully I will have an ending by this Tues/Wed…and then the work of inputting into the computer all the longhand stuff (yep, I still do a lot of longhand work – it helps me to think – but DragonSpeak does come in very handy).
Then I have to polish and edit and all the fun stuff that goes with burping the baby. *grin*

I’m still hoping for a completion date for Christmas…*crossing my fingers*

jan, who is nursing a wee bit of a cold. Ugh!

Thursday December 8, 2011

Here’s something really neat that I picked up from one of my groups.
Enjoy!!

Where did “piss poor” come from? We older people need to learn something new every day.. just to keep the grey matter tuned up.

Where did “Piss Poor” come from?
Interesting History. They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot and then once a day it was taken and sold to the tannery… .if you had to do this to survive you were “Piss Poor”.
But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn’t even afford to buy a pot… they “didn’t have a pot to piss in” and were the lowest of the low. The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn’t just how you like it, think about how things used to be.

Here are some facts about the 1500s

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell,
brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.
Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, “Don’t throw the baby out with the Bath water!”

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals(mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying, “It’s raining cats and dogs.”
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That’s how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, “Dirt poor.” The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.
Hence: a thresh hold.

(Getting quite an education, aren’t you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: “Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old”.
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, “bring home the bacon.” They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom; “of holding a wake”.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, “saved by the bell” or was “considered a dead ringer”.

And that’s the truth. Now, whoever said History was boring!!!
So get out there and educate someone! ~~~ Share these facts with a friend.
Inside every older person is a younger person wondering, ‘What the heck happened?’

We’ll be friends until we are old and senile. Then we’ll be new friends.
“Smile”, it gives your face something to do!

Update:

Thursday November 24, 2011

I’m about 3/4 of the way thru Resistance – Outlaw Lovers 5. I’ve also come up with an idea for my next Outlaw Lovers story.

Here’s a blurb for Mac’s story – tentatively titled “Pleasure Burn”

Pleasure Burn
Outlaw Lovers 6
Jan Springer

Everyone thought Mac Outlaw was a nice guy who worked as a photojournalist during the Terrorist Wars. They were dead wrong. Mac and his partner, Jake Dante are mercenaries who hire themselves out to the highest bidder. Masters of disguise, and deadly assassins, they’ve accepted a dangerous assignment: take out the Immudin brothers, three sadistic men who killed the woman they loved. Their plan? Infiltrate the brothers’ lucrative human trafficking organization with a well-trained sex slave.

Enter sexy, sassy Maggie Madison. Maggie will do anything for a chance at taking out the men who murdered her older sister. In order to do her job, Maggie agrees to be fully trained in the arts of giving and receiving pleasure. She must be taught complete submission. She must respond without question to any sexual command. In short, she must become addicted to sex. She didn’t plan on her sister’s ex-flames Mac Outlaw and Jake Dante to become her main trainers.

Under the hot Saudi sun, in a secluded desert villa, Maggie will struggle to keep her secret love for Mac and Jake buried deep inside while they train her in the pleasure arts of ultimate submission. It’s only a matter of time before her burning needs ignite into an inferno of love she can no longer conceal.

Lacey Magerin never expected her husband of twenty years to leave her for a twenty-two year old. She never expected her fifteen-year-old daughter to blame her for the divorce.

Lacey also never expected Shayne Donnelly. The NHL goalie is her brother’s best friend and is ten years younger than her.

Neither of them know the rules in this new game but that’s not stopping either of them from playing or finding love in the least likely place – on home ice.

Nora Roberts Sends Letter of Support for Copyright Infringement Legislation

February 13, 2011

Dear Chairman Leahy and Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee,

I strongly support Bill 3804.

Piracy eats away not only at the income of writers, but at the fabric of intellectual property. This blatant disregard for copyright not only devalues us, the creators, but the work we labor to create.

In discussions with people who feel piracy is simply the cost of doing business, or worse, that it’s their right as a consumer, I’ve been told I should be flattered so many people want to read my work–for free–that they probably wouldn’t have bought the book anyway, so it’s not really a lost sale, that there’s nothing I can do about it, so why fight it. They tell me they can’t afford to actually buy the book, but they want to read it. When I suggest the library as an alternative, I’m told the library’s too far away or the wait for the book from a library too long.

I’m told not to call it stealing or those who engage in the practice thieves because it annoys them.

It annoys them.

I say, respectfully, it annoys me when what we, as writers, have created out of our individual minds, hearts, guts is taken without compensation. When it’s taken without our consent. We do not consent to piracy. We do not consent to being devalued out of existence.

The Internet is an extraordinary tool, and with it, we can access information with a few keystrokes. But there is a difference, wide and deep, between information and creative property. We use words to express our imaginations, to tell stories that entertain, that bring comfort, offer amusement or solace. Melding that imagination with words to create a book takes work, time, effort, talent. The storyteller and the book that comes from her through that work, that talent, must be valued and respected. If piracy continues to devastate a writer’s income, to erode the ability of the publishers to make the profit necessary to bring those books to the public, where will the next generation of storytellers come from? How can they live if their individual creativity has no value?

The novelist, the novel, the publisher as the gatekeeper can’t stand against the growing assault of piracy.

Freedom is essential to us, as people, as Americans. But freedom must co-exist with the rule of law. And the law must address progress along with the benefits and complications it brings with it.

We look to you to make the laws that protect us, that protect our work, that protect and respect creative property. We look to you to stand up for us and against piracy and its growing sense of entitlement.

Without writers there will be no stories. Without stories, the world will be a smaller and much less vibrant place. Please don’t let that happen.

Nora Roberts

Sebastian’s infatuation with demure Claire Villiers, another contestant, threatens to put all four of them in harm’s way.

A deadly trail of corporate conspiracy, monstrous assassins and hot bikini wax is more than anyone bargained for in this incendiary erotic mystery. Get ready for some serious heat on the dark side of the moon.

EXCERPT:

Evelyn’s self-esteem soared like a rocket as she gazed into Gerry’s eyes. All the need and desire that filled him shone through. She liked him, maybe more if she were honest, and had wanted him from the moment his pompous ass walked into her hotel room. Being with him and initiating sex tonight was the right thing for her to do.
Gerry wrapped an arm around her waist, tugging her closer. Damn, his hard chest felt good against her achy boobs, but not as good as his rigid cock nestling into her belly.
“Evie—”
“Don’t talk.”
He nodded and traced his index finger along her bottom lip. She nipped the tip, then sucked it in, tonguing the pad until he groaned.
“Ah, Ev—” He caught her face in his hands and kissed her with a passion that ignited her.
His tongue toyed against the seam of her mouth, then delved in, a beautiful taste of wine and herbs, lapping and swirling until her knees trembled. With a regretful sigh, she pulled away.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“No talking. It’s my little quirk.” She tapped his mouth, then took his hand and led him to the sand. After she stooped, she patted the ground, inviting him to join her.
Evelyn rose up on her knees and combed her hands down his chest, flicking his nipples until they sprang to life. Intrigued, she swiped her tongue over her dry lips and leaned into him, licking and sucking the copper-colored discs.
She continued lower to the blond tuft cradling his cock. Gently, she glided her thumb over his swollen head, teasing the drops of pre-cum from the slit to the sensitive underside. Her other hand cupped his balls, rolling the tight sacs with her fingers, taking pleasure in her teasing.
His hips jerked with each touch. Through hooded eyes, he watched, but did as she had requested and maintained silence.
On a rush of air, she gave his lips a quick peck and eased over him, holding her thighs tight against his frame. Heat emanated from his body, soothing and stimulating, a new awareness she longed to experience more than once.
Her breasts swayed close to his mouth. He stretched up and tweaked her pebbled nipples with his thumbs and index fingers. Cuddling them together, he licked and suckled the sensitive tips, first one, then the other. A deep shiver rocketed through her, increasing the ache low in her belly.
She teased his cock along her nether lips, loving the feel of his hot flesh grazing against her clit. In slow motion, she edged onto his shaft, savoring the inches that penetrated her wet vagina.
He rocked into her, clutching her hips, holding her in place. She locked her hands around his wrists and pulled them away, the need to set the pace paramount.
“This is so sexy I don’t want to come,” he bit out through clenched teeth.
“I do.” She slapped his hip. “Again and again.”

A fantastic review plus 5 white dragons for “Nice Girl Naughty” from Judy King at Veiled Secrets Reviews!

Here’s a snip of what Judy says,

“This is a very sexy story, with a lot of tension. The guilt Nick feels because Summer is his best friends sister is not enough to curtail their desire for each other. You’ll find yourself enamored with Nick and secretly hoping that Summer continues with her wandering hands. You’ll find yourself holding your breath when the bad guy is on the
scene.

I found my heart racing and flying through the pages when they have to save themselves from imminent danger. This is definitely a book that will have you spell
bound until the end rooting for the good guys and cringing at the thought of this bad guy. Don’t miss out on this suspenseful and extremely sexy book. Nice Girl Naughty
delivers with style.”

Another lovely “Sweet Heat” review. This one is from Paranormal Romance Reviews!

http://www.paranormalromance.org/reviews/review.php?id=33207

…is a fantastic read of love versus loyalty, and proves true love can be found at first sight or bite, however the case may be. Jan Springer does a superb job of mixing both the past and the present, which leads to a deeper understanding of Julie’s way of being and ability to pass herself off as a human. Reading this book definitely gave me a whole new desire for chocolate!

4 Blue Ribbons

NICE GIRL NAUGHTY has all the elements that are needed for an award winning novel. Jan Springer has written a high action suspense that will keep you guessing. I was highly impressed at how she was able to use Summer’s disability as an asset that allowed Nick the opportunity to paint the world for her in his own words. Such realism as she is able to project will have you questioning if you are reading fact or fiction.

Nice Girl Naughty by Jan Springer

It is a wonderful story. Summer is not as venerable as she may seem. Being blind has not held her back any. She has made a life for herself and learned to deal with her blindness. Just when you think your life is under your control, a mad man wants to end it all. Lucky for summer her brother runs a bodyguard company and sends long time friend Nick where he knows of a cabin in the wild and in the solitude reacquaints the friends in more ways than one. This has action and adventure of all kinds.

I rate this: 5 out of 5.
